Description
This drawing is one of several signed by John Casper Wild that are based on the illustrations in George Catlin’s book Letters and Notes on Manners, Customs, and Conditions of the North American Indians (1841), the product of nearly a decade of travel on the Great Plains. Wild may have produced this drawing, dated June 1843, for an unrealized publication; he was primarily engaged in making lithographic views of cities, including Philadelphia and St. Louis, where he lived the year he emulated Catlin’s work.
